The group was formed by Production House Records, a record label which had been set up in 1987 by former recording artist Phil Fearon, whose disco group Galaxy had had a number of hits in the early 1980s including the top tenners "Dancing Tight", "What Do I Do?", "Everybody's Laughin'", and "I Can Prove It". Heavily involved with the rave scene, Production House's in-house producer Floyd Dyce wrote and performed under several different names including The House Crew, DMS and Xstatic. Baby D became yet another outlet for his compositions.,consisting of Lead vocalist (Baby D) Dee Galdes-Fearon, and Terry Jones (stage name MC Nino) on vocals and keyboards.
Early singles between 1991 and 1994 were "underground" hits, but failed to cross over into the pop mainstream. Two of them scraped into the lower end of the Top 75. "Let Me Be Your Fantasy" was the exception, in that although it had not made the Top 75 at all when first released in 1992, it continued to be a small but steady seller, hanging around the bottom half of the unpublished Top 200 listing for two years and clocking up sales of around 40,000.It also reached the number one spot in the dance chart, staying there for two weeks. In 1994 the track was signed by London Records and re-released, at which point it promptly debuted on the chart at number three and then spent two weeks at number one, this time selling about a quarter of a million copies.
In the summer of 1995 Baby D reached number three with a rave version of the Korgis' 1980 ballad "Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime", re-titled "I Need Your Loving". Other hits followed, plus and a Top 5 album ("Deliverance"). Dyce now runs his own record label, Redmaster, and still writes and produces, while Fearon and Jones still perform at venues and raves all over the country and abroad, countries including Poland, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Spain Mainland and Islands, Greece and the Islands, and the Middle East.
Jones also co-wrote a Number One for pop act Peter Andre, and re-mixed and produced for successful girl group Eternal and U.S. act the Backstreet Boys, as well as St Etienne vocalist Sarah Cracknell.
In 2000 a remix of "Let Me Be Your Fantasy" (courtesy of the Trick or Treat production team), made the Top 20,at No 16. The track was also covered by Ashley Jade, in 2004, but although it made #19 on the Hot Dance Singles chart, it did not make the main listing.
Summer of 2008 saw the band perform at the massive dance rave of GLOBAL GATHERING.... As well as their great love of music and performing live, the Baby d fanbase has always been, and is still extremely important to them.
