Описание

Born in France to Sicilian parents, raised in Germany, Domenico is a true European…but of course, Italy, the birthplace of his forefathers, holds a special place in his heart. And so, Domenico does what any proud Sicilian would do-he takes us there! He takes us on a musical journey of a special kind, to his roots; from the North all the way to the South, back to the place from which his father started out from, back in the 50`ies, travelling all the way to “Germania” to start a new life. Domenico Rubino tells a story in each song, a story of a never ending quest, of intense longing, a story of love and of light, of homecomings and of farewells, and, of course, it all starts with the question, which we all seek to answer:”Dove vai?”-where are you going? We say bye to Mannheim, the regal city between the Rhine and Neckar rivers, and head for Milano, a beautiful and proud city of contrasts. We listen to the popular fable of the “fish with wings” from Genova, we lose ourselves in the misty city of Venice, waltz around Emilia- Romagna, find joy in Florence, and fall in love for eternity in Rome…and end up in the orange groves of Sicily. “These are impressions of a reversed immigration- I wanted to retrace the path my father took 50 years ago, to make it visible, audible, to feel it” says Domenico. Domenico has succeeded in doing so. Through his music, he shows us images of an Italy where the classical coexists with the modern, where that which is futuristic is united with retro; mandolins and hard beats, sweet flutes and drums make us dream of pine covered slopes or trudge through the heat of Naples. Domenico ‘s companion and producer on his journey is Lothar Krell. They managed to translate Domenico‘s poetry into sounds. Thus, a musical diary was written, 12 chapters that elegantly sway from the Italian Chanson to jazzy Chill Out and Pop. Domenico was born in Thionville/France of Sicilian immigrant parents. Even at an early age, he was the singer in the family. His father recognized his musicality and encouraged it by buying him an accordion when he was seven years old. From then on, Domenico would entertain his parents, his for siblings, and the entire clan and friends, who would regularly descend upon the Rubino family home, with waltzes, mazurkas, and songs from their Italian place of origin. When he was ten years old, the family relocated to Mannheim, where he would later begin a career as musician, composer, lyricist and singer. He wrote songs together with his twin brother Lillo, and as teenagers, they would celebrate their first hit with the band “NERO” – A.E.I.O.U, an Italian dance hit. Various band followed, among them “RUBINI”, but not until “ DESTINAZIONE SUD” did Domenico realize his dream of a solo project. “I wanted to make visible the colors and the sounds of Italy and to remind people of the musical styles that came from there or where brought there over the centuries” says Domenico. Two tracks from the album- “Resta con me” and “Canto per voi” were featured in the German motion picture “Pizza und Marmelade” with actors Max von Thun and Stefanie Stappenbeck. Domenico dedicated this album to his father, who, he says “like many other Italians, never lost his pride and dignity, living in a foreign land”.
